Recycle Week 2021: Our waste management team prevent 99% of our waste heading to landfills
To mark the 19th Recycle Week 2021, we are putting a spotlight on our waste recycling teams who are tackling the climate crisis head on.
Since they began operating in late 2019, the way Liberty recycles waste across the business has improved dramatically.
The waste and recycling department implemented a number of measures to ensure the business was avoiding landfills and sending waste to recycling companies instead.
A reputable skip recycling company set up an inhouse waste and recycling centre in the Logistics yard in Hammond Road, Knowsley, where we now segregate waste into timber, rubble, cardboard, mixed waste, scrap metal and electrical waste.
Our waste partners also provide the business with stats every month to report back what’s been recycled. Last month alone, 99% of our waste was sent away to be recycled.
We also operate a free UPVC window and door recycling scheme which has been offered to and utilised by some of our repair and maintenance teams.
John Brabin, Waste and Recycling Officer, set up a link with Eurocell, a company take away our old window frames for free and they will recycle them and use again. UPVC frames can be recycled up to around 8 times.
He said: “Recycling and waste management has improved since 2019 so that as a business, we are committed to tackling the climate crisis head on. We are proud to say that 99% of our waste avoids landfills and is either recycled or sent to other companies to reuse our materials.”
