Creating a legacy for change on Stephen Lawrence Day

Today we’re commemorating the life of Stephen Lawrence, a young black man who was tragically murdered in an unprovoked racist attack at a bus stop when he was just 18 years old in 1993.

Stephen, a bright student and loving son, lived with his family in south-east London and had ambitions of using his talents of maths, art and design to become an architect and have a positive impact on his community.

People all over the world, including Nelson Mandela, were deeply saddened, which resulted in Stephen’s story receiving a huge amount of media attention and is still talked about to this day.

It’s been 28 years since Stephen lost his life, but sadly these brutal attacks still happen far too often all across the world.

We must all work together to say no to racism, hatred and discrimination; because enough is enough.

This powerful video created by the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation highlights the importance of continuing Stephen’s legacy, so we can work together as communities to one day put a stop to racist attacks happening for good.
