Wirral tower block receives state of the art commercial heating system
A tower block owned by Wirral housing association Magenta Living has received a new high efficiency heating system installed by Liberty, after the existing system was deemed beyond economical repair. Magenta Living asked long-term partner Liberty to find a temporary boiler solution to provide heating and hot water to its customers, whilst a new plant room could be designed and installed. The total contract is valued at over £140,000.
Following numerous visits to repair the original heating system, customers living at The Towers on Bebington Road, Tranmere were informed by Magenta Living that a new system would be installed, being more practical and overall providing more benefits to its customers.
The plant room at The Towers is located at the top of the 11-story bock which houses 41 flats. As a short-term solution, Liberty installed temporary boilers to the roof top plant room within 48hrs of being notified of the existing system issue. This supplied customers with their heating and hot water needs until the changeover to the new system was completed.
The long-term works included a comprehensive chemical flush and clean of the entire low temperature hot water heating system for the tower block, re-tanking of the roof top plant room floor and designing an updated replacement boiler plant installation.
The installation has been designed in accordance with the latest network heating systems CP1 guidelines to minimize future energy running costs. A large crane was required to hoist the boiler unit onto the roof.
Ken Browne, Head of Asset Compliance and Building Safety at Magenta Living said, “This is a great example of collaborative working with our partner, Liberty, to deliver lasting improvements and benefits for our customers who have been kept up to date throughout the project. Over the coming months our customers will see and feel the real benefit of having a new system installed whilst we continue to invest in their homes and buildings.”
Paul Roberts, Senior Project Manager at Liberty, said: “I am extremely pleased with our team’s prompt response to the boiler issues at The Towers which ensured residents didn’t have to wait too long to see heating and hot water return.
“It was a challenging project due to the boiler’s location on the roof, but we worked closely with trusted sub-contractors to complete the re-tanking of the roof top plant room floor and Magenta Living to deliver a modernised, cost-efficient plant room.”
