Liberty’s commitment to apprentice development
At Liberty, we recognise the value of fostering the next generation of skilled workers, investing in their development, and nurturing their career growth. Our partnership with Magenta Living and the successful apprenticeship of Connor, a Plumbing and Heating apprentice, stands as a testament to this commitment.
In April 2021, Connor, a hardworking and dedicated apprentice, joined the Liberty team. Employed by Magenta Living and studying at Wirral Metropolitan College, Connor was eager to expand his practical experience in gas heating work—a facet of his chosen field that was not available at his primary employment site, Magenta Property Care.
Liberty stepped in to fill this gap, offering Connor a volunteer apprenticeship two days a week. Here, Connor had the opportunity to shadow qualified Liberty heating engineers, enhancing his gas skills and building his portfolio of evidence for his apprenticeship qualification.
During his time at Liberty, Connor worked alongside seasoned engineers, including Andy (pictured). He acquired invaluable experience in gas servicing and repair. Additionally, he spent two months closely working with Liberty’s boiler installation engineers, gaining crucial installation skills.
After two years of tireless effort, persistent learning, and unwavering commitment, Connor qualified from his apprenticeship in April 2023. His journey did not stop there, though. Connor continues to apply his newfound skills and knowledge at Magenta Property Care.
Joe Watson, Service Delivery Manager at Liberty said: “It’s great to see Connor graduate form his apprenticeship and continue his career with Magenta Property Care. He was an asset to the Liberty team and built great relationships with all the engineers he worked alongside. I wish him all the best for the future and am pleased to say we’ve recently welcomed a new apprentice into the Liberty team to replace Connor as we continue to invest in the skills and employment of the local community.”
Our collaboration with Magenta Living extends beyond the successful development of apprentices. Liberty has had a longstanding relationship with Magenta Living for over 15 years, across multiple contracts. A significant part of our contract, which was procured by Fusion21 in 2020, includes social value. Covering servicing, maintenance, and installation of domestic and commercial heating systems, the contract runs for an initial three years from October 2020, with the option to extend for a further two years.
This story underscores Liberty’s commitment to supporting our clients and the communities we serve. By investing in high-skilled jobs and supporting learning and development, we contribute to building a robust and skilled local workforce.
Following his apprenticeship completion, Connor wrote to Liberty, saying, “Just wanted to let you know that I passed my gas exam last Friday and say thank you for the opportunity to work with the technician at Liberty and for helping me collect evidence needed to complete my portfolio really appreciated.”
At Liberty, we understand that our strength lies in our people. And through partnerships like the one with Magenta Living, we strive to create opportunities that allow individuals to thrive and contribute to their communities, thereby creating a ripple effect of success and growth.
