Liberty transforms old garden centre site into high quality new home
Liberty’s expertise in transforming small sites into high quality new homes has enabled Jigsaw Group to take forward a new development of 10 semi-detached homes on an old garden centre site in Boundary Lane, Hesketh Bank.
Liberty’s focus on taking away problems for clients, providing common sense solutions and creating better environments for all were vital to enabling the business to overcome significant challenges at the site.
This included overgrown trees and bushes, unsafe structures, asbestos and major service diversions.
The team also found birds nesting where work was due to take place, which can cause delays in the construction work.
Liberty tackled these challenges by creating bird boxes for birds to nest while early works were being carried out, working closely in collaboration with Jigsaw Group to find solutions that satisfied all stakeholders, from the ecologists to the planners.
Lee Hartley, Senior Quantity Surveyor – Project Manager from Liberty, said: “Finding wildlife on a site always poses a significant challenge, together with the issues that come with an old overgrown site, we needed to develop innovative solutions to take this development of homes forward. We quickly put measures in place to allow birds to continue to nest, as well as bringing in specialists to tackle the asbestos.
“Through our smart and straightforward ethos and our strong partnerships, we were able to successfully manage all the challenges presented by this site to create much needed, high quality homes.”
