Heat pump installation for Home Group: Northgate Court, Exeter
Liberty’s Projects Team completed a significant project for Home Group, involving the installation of two new air source heat pumps at Northgate Court. Northgate Court is a block of 11 studio flats, built c.2011 which provide specialised supported-living accommodation for ex-offenders in the Exeter area.
The project, located in the heart of Exeter, was executed to enhance and the home comfort of the residents by upgrading an existing air source heat pump heating-only system, which was underperforming, whilst improving the system’s energy efficiency through enhanced insulation, following the guidelines of CIBSE CP1.
Valued at £40,000, the scope of the project included:
– Review and redesign of the space heating system to address the existing underperformance.
– Replacement and upgrade of two outdated heat pumps with new, energy-efficient models.
– Coordination with the air source heat pump manufacturer, Daikin, to employ approved local installers for the new system.
– Associated electrical work and control systems to ensure seamless operation.
Liberty secured this contract as a direct award from Home Group, after successfully completing three other projects for them. The project required a specialised approach due to the location and the specific type of heat pumps. Liberty worked closely with Daikin to ensure the highest standards of installation, including the onboarding of local specialists.
Work began on site on the 20th May 2024, and was completed by the 14th June 2024.
Installation of the two new Daikin EDLA11D3V1 monobloc air source heat pumps, to provide space heating for the 11 flats. Residents were supported throughout the installation period and were provided with temporary electric heaters to ensure their continued comfort. Hot water was unaffected, with each flat having their own independent electrical hot water systems.
Home Group provided positive feedback on the completion of the project, highlighting the professionalism and efficiency of Liberty’s team.
Calvin Thain, Client Services Manager at Home Group, also commended after completion of the works:
“I would like to pass on my thanks to the install team … not one customer has complained regarding any aspect of the works, which as far as I am concerned is a huge win. The works will help us meet our core customer promises.”
Matthew Wondrak, Maintenance Project Surveyor at Home Group, added to Calvin’s satisfaction saying:
“Fantastic to have such positive feedback – thank you Liberty. I am so happy it has now been concluded to a positive outcome.”
